Privacy Practices & Confidentiality
Staci Morey, LCSW | Boca Raton, Florida
Your privacy is a top priority. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida, I adhere to the ethical guidelines of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the legal requirements set forth by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). Below is an overview of how your personal information is handled in therapy:
Confidentiality
Everything you share in therapy is confidential, with a few important exceptions as required by law:
If there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, I am legally required to take appropriate steps to ensure safety, which may include notifying appropriate authorities or individuals.
If there is suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult, I am mandated to report this to the Florida Department of Children and Families or other appropriate agencies.
If a court of law issues a subpoena or court order, I may be required to release information.
If you sign a written release of information, I may share specific details with the individuals or entities you designate.
HIPAA Compliance
Your health information is protected under HIPAA. This includes any identifying information, diagnosis, treatment details, and session notes. I use secure methods for storing and transmitting data to maintain your privacy.
Electronic Communication
Email, texting, and telehealth platforms are used only with your consent and are conducted through HIPAA-compliant services whenever possible. While every effort is made to ensure security, please be aware that no form of electronic communication is 100% secure.
Telehealth Sessions
For clients across Florida, I offer online therapy through a secure, encrypted telehealth platform. Privacy and confidentiality apply to virtual sessions as they do in person. Please ensure you are in a private space when attending online therapy.
Your Rights
As a client, you have the right to:
Request access to your treatment records
Ask for corrections to your records
Request restrictions on certain uses or disclosures of your information
Receive a paper copy of this privacy policy upon request
Questions or Concerns
If you have any questions about this policy or your privacy rights, please feel free to ask. I am committed to creating a safe, respectful space where you can do meaningful work in a confidential and supportive environment.
